Poetry by Piano

I've been on the market for a pianist whose auditory outpourings satisfy all my sensory needs. Yes, Phillip Glass, you're epic you're epic you're epic, Jason Moran and Brad Meldau, you tickle my jazzy fancy, but I've been needing something that invokes more mind patterns, imagery, fanciful emotions and colorful skies.

Like the kind of music that should be playing as you sit pondering the wonders of mother nature on, say, the top of a mountain.

Well, thanks to John Schaefer and NPR's New Sounds, I've just added about eight more artists to my collection - pianists whose music follows the meter of poetry more than rhythm or harmony. I recommend Minneapolis based Harold Budd with Zeitgeist and Bjornstad, Darling, Rypdal, Christensen doing "The Sea", a whole album devoted to the movement of water. Yes please.
